Firmware 5.00 a Reality?
You may have seen video's of the rumored firmware 5.00, which is supposely contains several features linked to the PlayStation Network. We have reported that Sony may be working on firmware 5.00. We have also reported that the PSP-3000 boxes show a PSP with the PlayStation Store on it. The Japan PlayStation Store page shows that the PlayStation Store will definitely be coming. The page explains how a new XMB menu will be added called PlayStation Network. Under this menu the screen shot shows that you can sign-in to the PlayStation Network and you can access the PlayStation Store after signing in. The following features have been rumored for 5.00, including the new PlayStation Store feature: Basic support for the PSN Store, which may include Playstation Store downloads, a friends list, and future trophy support An improved RSS reader, with scrolling text support Screenshot functionality, for in-game use, and other areas of the XMB It is also fair to assume that the new Ad Hoc Party feature and PSP Plus feature may also be included in the new firmware. The store is set to release on Octobter 15, the same time as the PSP-3000, which remember shows the PlayStation Store on its box. TGS Newsbits for 10/10: Patapon 2, Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep, Gran Turismo and more! Well today is the second day of the Tokyo Game Show in Japan. Here is what has been happening since the last newsbits: A new Patapon 2 trailer was released and is hosted via Gametrailers. Remember the Ad Hoc Party feature we mention in the last newsbits? Well it seems that Phantasy Star Portable will also be supporting this feature. Tecmo showed off the PSP game Undead Knights, a game where "you turn enemies into zombies and have them fight for you." IGN has some trailers for you to watch. A new video of Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology 2 was shown. Check out the link for the video. Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep was shown today by Square Enix. They showed a demo of the game, which featured the main character Terra. Check out the link for videos and a review. Yoshida has confirmed that Gran Turismo for the PSP is still coming, but will not come until 2010. Will report more TGS goodies tomorrow! Your PSP must be at firmware 3.70 or above, and a USB cable is required. TGS Newsbits for 10/09: Final Fantasy: Dissidia, Ad Hoc Party, Dynasty Warriors and more As you may already know, the Tokyo Game Show has just started and will continue until October 12. I thought that because of all the PSP news that comes with TGS, I would post a newsbit each day to cover any TGS content, without writing pages of articles, and cluttering the front page. Square Enix just had their "Closed Mega Theater." During this theater they show off Final Fantasy: Dissidia, Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep, Final Fantasy Agito XIII, and The 3rd Birthday. For all of you Final Fantasy 7 fans, their was a real-time Cloud vs. Sephiroth video, shown! Square Enix has some more goodies for you as well. It seems that they will be releasing a Final Fantasy: Dissidia themed PSP-3000 bundle on December 18. Remember the rumor that stated PSP games will be available as downloads via the PlayStation Store in 2009? Well it seems that this rumor is true, as Sony has just revealed at TGS that future PSP games will be available as downloads. This includes Sony Bend's Resistance Retribution. Well it seems the PSP PlayStation Sore, that was rumored to be in firmware 5.00, is set to release on October 15. Sony also reveals that a new "Ad Hoc Party" feature will be released soon, on October 30, as well. All this coming from Sony's TGS conference. It seems that Dynasy Warriors: Multi-Raid, will not be coming to North America...at least not in the same form. Koei announced that the North American version of Dynasty Warriors: Multi-Raid will be called Dynasty Warriors: Strikeforce. Koei released a bunch of screens for the new game, via their TGS conference, for you to check out. PSP getting rumble support in the form of "PSP Plus" We've all heard the rumors of Dualshock compatibility coming to the Playstation Portable, including this patent, filed by Sony back in 2007. Today these rumors are confirmed, with Sony announcing a new "PSP Plus" feature. Kotaku explains that after connecting your AV cable to the TV, and your PSP to your PS3 (via USB), "PSP Plus" will allow you to control the portable game on the television, via the Dualshock 3 controller. One example would be the upcoming title Resistance Retribution, which will support the new "PSP Plus" feature. Rather than using the restricted PSP controls, you can plug your PSP into your entertainment center, take over on the Dualshock controller, and set the controls to your liking. A small interfacing feature, but one with many possibilities, and quite useful. Newsbits for 10/08/08: Midnight Club: LA Remix, PSP-3000, DSi and More A lot of minor news has been popping up so I gathered all the odd news I could find into this newsbit article for everyone to enjoy: Chris Roper of IGN wrote a review today about the new Midnight Club: LA Remix game, coming out in just a few weeks. Some new Neverland Card Battles screenshots showed up today on IGN. Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G got a North American release date today. A new scan revealed some new Final Fantasy: Dissidia characters. A member of NeoGraf came across the PSP-3000 at BesyBuy. The new model was slated to be released on October 14 in North America and October 15 in Europe. It seems that the PSP-3000 is starting to appear in retail stores. Star Ocean: Second Evolution has been given a European release date for some time this spring. The game comes out on January 6 in North America. Sony's John Koller states his thoughts about Ninetendo's new DSi. LocoRoco 2 to be Packed with Tons of New Features! Remember when we reported that LocoRoco 2 will be released by the end of the year? Well today at the Tokyo Game Show, Sony revealed some new LocoRoco 2 goodies! It seems that some new mini-games have been added, the difficulty in the game has been toned down, the camera will reveal more of the level as your Roco speeds up, some new levels have been added, more interactive items have been added, and it seems that you are able to create items with the Mui Mui you rescued throughout certain levels. The controls are the same as the original LocoRoco game. You use the L and R buttons to tilt the level, moving your Roco and press L and R together to bounce your Roco into the air. If you haven't heard of LocoRoco, the object of the game is to guide a blob, called a Roco, through various levels while trying to find other Roco's. When you find these Roco's you can merge them together which will help you get to other places in the level. You can also split your large Roco into its smaller counterparts, which will help you get through other smaller areas of the level. There are a variety of LocoRoco demo's in our File Vault for you to try out. No release date was given at this demo, however, one should show up real soon! More videos after the jump. Sony Shows Off Patapon 2 Multiplayer During the pre-show session of this years Tokyo Game Show, Sony demonstrated the new multiplayer mode for Patapon 2. The object of this new mode is to try to hatch giant Ostrich eggs with other players. Players will first prepare their customizable Patapon Warrior's with various equipment. Once done, they will march through the level until they come across an Ostrich-like boss who is guarding a giant egg. They must defeat this boss as a team and at the same time try to stay alive. Once the boss has been defeated players get the chance to hatch the giant egg the Ostrich has been guarding. Players will do this by inputting certain rhythmic control sequences, using the PSP's face buttons. Once this is done the egg will hatch and a new, possible rare, item will be unlocked. If a player dies any time during this mode they will be revived shortly after dieing, however, if all players die during battle than the game will end and all players will lose. The game supports up to 4 players, all via both infrastructure and ad hoc. If you are new to the Patapon series, essentially what you do in the game is to tap out rhythm's using the PSP face buttons. These rhythm's, in turn, will command your Patapon Warrior to move toward your enemy and strike them with their weapons. The game is a completely musical driven 2D RPG style game where your characters will improve based on the RPG genre's leveling system. Patapon 2 is the sequel to the original Patapon game, in which many gamers have come to like. No release date was given but, we will keep our eyes open! More videos after the jump. DJ Max Goodies to Hit Korean Stores in Four? Come this December, it seems that DJ Max fans may have three games under their Christmas tree...plus a DJ Max PSP-3000 bundle! Remember the DJ Max Fever game reported last week? How about the DJ Max PSP-3000 bundles we also reported? Well it seems that DJ Max fans don't only have to look forward to both Korean hip hop artist Hyon Do Lee and a PSP-3000, but they can also look forward to two other DJ Max games coming out this holiday season. DJ Max Portable Claaziquai Edition, which seems to be a more "user-friendly" version of DJ Max Portable, should come out sometime in October when Sony launches the DJ Max PSP-3000 bundles on October 16. While DJ Max Portable Black Square, a more "hardcore game edition," comes out sometime in November, according to Play-Asia. To go along with all this excitement, PM Studios has also redesigned the box art for DJ Max Fever, which comes out November 11. According to the new box art, DJ Max Fever is supposed to have "50 soundtracks, 70 “extreme challenges”, and 500 items to collect." Fever Mode, from the original DJ Max Portable 2 game, will make a welcome return in DJ Max Fever as well. Although there has not been a full song list has not been revealed for DJ Max Fever, Siliconera states that, based on the cover, the following songs will be included: Syriana Brain Storm Right now NB Rangers Ladymade star All three games, including the PSP-3000 bundle, are Korean exclusive, so if you live somewhere in Korea you're going to want to pick them up! PSP-3000 Retail Box Confirms PSP PlayStation Store? Remember the 5.00 BETA firmware that was rumored to be released to official PSP game developers? Well it seems the new PSP-300 box spotted on amazon confirms that support for the PlayStation Store via the PSP is indeed coming to the PSP. The box also shows the PSN logo, a logo that was not previously displayed on past packages. This same logo is also displayed on PS3 boxes as well. Eurogamer got their hands on the new PSP-3000 today and it seems that, apart from the PlayStation Store, battery life will not be affected by the new "brite" screen, and that the PSP-3000 ships with firmware 4.20, instead of the rumored 5.00 firmware. The new firmware contains the following changes: Automatic USB connection New "wide" setting for "colour space" The ability to play games on a TV with a special adapter and composite cable Doubtful that the features listed above will be released for other PSP models though, as they seem to be hardware dependent. Now don't get to excited, this doesn't necessarily mean that the PSP will be getting a friends list, nor does it mean that the PSP will be getting trophies! All this means is that PSP's are now being advertised as being compatible with the PlayStation Store, which to me is just awesome! PSP-3000 Entertainment pack on the left. PSP-2000 God of War Entertainment pack on the right. PS3 80 GB Metal Gear Solid 4 Entertainment pack on the bottom. Click images to enlarge. | ||
