This is a small metadata file. Metadata here means that the file contains information about the data you want to download, not the data itself. Your BitTorrent client needs the .torrent file to connect to the tracker(?) and download the data you want.
What to do with .rar, .r01, .r02 files?
These are RAR archive files, which is just a compression type similar to .zip but just split up into many files. You need to install a program like WinRAR to extract the contents.
What if it is password protected?
The password is most likely the URL that is in the name of the torrent (posibly even with [] if it is for example "Test torrent [www.test.com]"). If that is not the case try the URL of the tracker (see the details page of the torrent). If that is not the password try to go to the tracker URL (without the scrape part!) and look for a password there. Another good idea is to go back and check the torrent details page to see if anyone has posted the password, if not you can add a comment requesting it.
